EarFun Wave Pro Headphone review

As a long-time headphone user on the hunt for the best value, I’ve put the new Earfun Wave Pro wireless headphones through their paces. Launched at a competitive price of $79, these over-ear headphones pack a number of premium features, including a 40mm DLC dynamic driver, powerful hybrid active noise cancellation, and a massive 800mAh battery.

In this review, I’ll share my hands-on experience covering everything from the unboxing to the battery life, helping you decide if these are the right headphones for your daily listening needs.

First Impressions, Design, Comfort & Fit

Right out of the box, the Earfun Wave Pro presents a premium experience. It comes with a high-quality carry case, which is a fantastic inclusion for a headset in this price range. Inside, you’ll find an aux cable for wired listening and a USB-C cable for charging. The headphones themselves feel robust and well-built, with a plastic construction that doesn’t feel cheap. A metal plate in the headband allows for smooth height adjustment, and the earcups feature the Earfun logo. The overall black design is sleek and professional.

Despite the earcups feeling slightly bulky, the headphones are surprisingly comfortable for long-term use. The headband has ample cushioning, and the protein leather earpads are soft and breathable. I was able to enjoy hours of music daily without discomfort, which is a testament to their ergonomic design. While a bit of heat and sweat can build up during very long sessions, it’s a minor issue.

Connectivity and EarFun App

The Earfun Wave Pro offers Bluetooth 5.3 and supports dual device connections, which I found to be a game-changer for my workflow. I can seamlessly switch between my smartphone for music and my laptop for video calls or media, with the audio pausing automatically on one device when the other starts playing. This feature worked flawlessly in my testing.

The companion EarFun Audio app is a powerful tool that unlocks the full potential of these headphones. It allows you to:

  • Check battery levels.
  • Switch between ANC modes (Ambient, Wind Noise Cancelling, Comfort ANC, and Strong ANC).
  • Activate Game Mode for low-latency audio.
  • Customize sound with a 10-band Custom Equalizer.
  • Update firmware and manage other settings like voice prompts and auto power-off.

The app is intuitive and makes it easy to personalize your listening experience.

Buttons

On the right speaker, you’ll find the power button for turning it on and off, then volume controls and an NC (noise cancellation) button. Additionally, there’s a small LED light that indicates the power status. On the left speaker, you’ll only find a USB Type-C charging port.

The buttons function efficiently. Press and hold the power button to turn the device on or off. The volume up button increases volume with a single press and skips tracks with a long press. Conversely, the volume down button decreases volume with a single press and goes to the previous track with a long press. The NC button allows switching between four cancellation modes: ambient mode, wind noise cancelling, comfort ANC, and strong ANC. A long press disables the noise cancellation feature.

Audio and Mic Quality

Equipped with a 40mm DLC dynamic driver, the Wave Pro delivers exceptional audio quality for its price point. The sound is clear with a satisfyingly strong bass presence. They also support Hi-Res Audio and LDAC for high-fidelity wireless streaming, which is a huge bonus for audiophiles.

I did notice a minor sound delay of about 5-6 seconds when switching between different types of content, such as from a social media feed to a video, which is a known issue. However, this was not a consistent problem and generally didn’t impact the overall listening experience.

For calls, the 5-mic array with AI noise cancellation works impressively well. My voice came through clear to callers, and the headphones effectively filtered out a significant amount of background noise, even in noisy environments.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)

The hybrid ANC is one of the standout features of the Wave Pro. With up to 45dB of noise cancellation, it does an excellent job of blocking out ambient sounds. I tested the headphones in a noisy, high-traffic area, and activating the ANC modes created a noticeably quieter environment, allowing me to focus on my music. The different modes in the app provide great flexibility, from letting in some ambient sound to a “Strong ANC” that truly minimizes distractions.

Battery Life

The 800mAh battery is easily one of the most impressive features of the Earfun Wave Pro. Earfun claims up to 80 hours of playback, and based on my initial use with the ANC off, this seems accurate. After several hours of listening, the battery level barely dropped. The fast-charging capability is also remarkable; a quick one-minute charge provides up to five hours of music playback. This feature alone is a huge convenience and beats many more expensive headphones.

Final Verdict: Is it Worth Buying?

The Earfun Wave Pro offers an incredible value proposition. It delivers premium audio performance, powerful ANC, and a phenomenal battery life that surpasses many competitors at a fraction of the price. The thoughtful design, solid build, and a comprehensive app make this an easy recommendation.

While the minor sound delay and the lack of ANC in wired mode (a passive feature) are small drawbacks, they don’t diminish the overall value. For anyone on a budget who wants a headphone that excels in sound, battery life, and noise cancellation, the Earfun Wave Pro is an outstanding choice.
