على مدى الـ15 عامًا الماضية، واظبت سامسونج على زيادة سعة الذاكرة العشوائية (RAM) في هواتفها الرائدة منThe Galaxy S series has been around for years, yet the maximum memory capacity of the Ultra model has stayed the same for the past four generations—with one small exception we’ll touch on later.
According to a new report, Samsung is expected to make a change next year. The Galaxy S26 Ultra could finally deliver the major RAM upgrade fans have been waiting for, offering 16GB of memory—or at least making a 16GB option available worldwide alongside the 12GB version.
What About the Galaxy S25 Ultra?
Some might wonder: isn’t the Galaxy S25 Ultra already available with 16GB of RAM? The answer is yes, but only in a handful of markets, so it doesn’t really count as a global change. At least that’s how Macquarie Research (via Jukanlosreve) sees it, excluding the limited edition from consideration.
And that makes sense. Since the 16GB version of the S25 Ultra isn’t widely available, most users can’t get it. For the vast majority, the phone is still capped at 12GB of RAM.
Samsung’s Step Back in Memory Capacity
Samsung hasn’t launched a flagship Galaxy S phone with 16GB of RAM since 2021. While the Ultra models offered 16GB four years ago, that option disappeared in 2022.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra were the first—and last—devices to bring a global 16GB option. The four Ultra models that followed were limited to 12GB max (with the small S25 Ultra exception in select regions).
2022 also marked the first time in a decade that Samsung actually downgraded RAM capacity in its flagships. But after four years of stagnation, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could finally set things right by delivering the long-awaited upgrade.
How Does Apple Compare?
Apple, Samsung’s biggest rival, is expected to bump RAM in upcoming iPhones to 12GB this year. But it’s unlikely to jump to 16GB anytime soon.
That makes Samsung’s decision to launch a flagship with 16GB of RAM even more logical. The company has always stayed a step ahead of Apple in memory capacity, and if Apple moves to 12GB this year, Samsung will likely want to stay on top by pushing to 16GB early next year.
What to Expect From the Galaxy S26 Ultra
According to a chart shared by Macquarie Research, the Galaxy S26 Ultra will offer a broader rollout of the 16GB option. It looks like the phone will ship with this higher capacity globally—or at least in most markets—making it a true upgrade that Samsung fans have been waiting years to see.
