Nothing is turning up the hype for its upcoming Phone 3, confirming another major design change in its latest teaser. The company just dropped a new video revealing it’s completely moving away from its signature Glyph lighting setup in favor of a new Glyph Matrix system—and this time, we get a clearer look at how it works.

When light becomes language.

The short clip shows the new lighting system pulsing in a rhythmic strobe effect, positioned in the top-right corner of the phone’s back panel. Nothing’s tagline, “When light becomes language,” hints that this isn’t just for looks—the Matrix could display notifications, charging status, and other info without needing to check the screen.
This isn’t the first time Nothing has teased the change. Back in May, the company dramatically announced, “We killed the Glyph Interface,” signaling the end of the light-up strips that made its previous phones stand out. The Glyph system wasn’t just aesthetic—it had practical uses, like Flip to Glyph mode (letting users place the phone face-down and get notifications through the lights) and even acting as a timer and charging indicator.
More Than Just a Flashy Upgrade
The new Matrix design looks closer to the ASUS ROG Phone’s lighting effects, but Nothing seems to be keeping its functional approach. Alongside this change, the company has already confirmed some key specs, including the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, which CEO Carl Pei claims will deliver:
- 36% faster CPU performance
- 88% stronger GPU
- 60% boost in NPU power
Plus, Nothing’s co-founder recently promised better long-term software support, suggesting the Phone 3 will be a true flagship contender.
What’s Next?
With the July 31 launch event approaching, expect more teasers to drop. If Nothing’s past reveals are anything to go by, the Phone 3 could bring even more surprises—possibly expanding how the Glyph Matrix works beyond just notifications.
One thing’s clear: Nothing isn’t holding back on making its next phone stand out. Will the Matrix lighting be a gimmick or a game-changer? We’ll find out soon.
